In an event that has only happened once before in the history of Nevada County Habitat for Humanity, two new families were welcomed into their new homes on the same day.

NCHFH’s Homeowner Support Committee facilitated new home dedications for Liz and her family in Nevada City, and for Sharon’s family in Grass Valley, on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

What made this event possible is that Nevada County Habitat completed rehabilitations on two homes during the same relative time period.

“Our construction crew really took advantage of the rainy season,” says Lorraine Larson, NCHFH Executive Director. “When the rain curtailed our new build work, they were able to transition to interior work on these two homes. They did amazing work. These two homes were immaculate.”

“I am speechless. There were times when I’d be working three jobs just to make rent payments and make sure my children had basic necessities. This is truly an answer to prayers.” Liz said about her new home.

Sharon had a similar response. “We’re all just filled with appreciation and gratitude,” she said. “We can’t wait to plant our garden!”

Nevada County Habitat for Humanity is grateful for the volunteers who worked so diligently to ready these homes for two hard-working families to firmly plant roots in our community.
