The staff and volunteers have had an incredibly busy summer – and there’s no stopping! The ReStore team takes great pride in being an integral part of ensuring local families have the opportunity to create security and stability by helping them build safe, decent and affordable homes. To keep you updated, here are a few things that have been happening at Nevada County habitat ReStore.

Love In Nevada County (LINC) volunteer group came to lend a hand. The ReStore team is grateful for LINC’s long-lasting commitment to ReStore as one of their regular stops! Their happy band of people helped tidy the parking lot to keep it safe for visitors, and also helped construct and paint a new bench for customers to enjoy to be set up outside the main entrance. A plaque dedicating the bench and honoring LINC’s commitment to ReStore will be added in the near future!

ReStore has received a lot of positive feedback from customers and staff about the Job Training Program for the family members of staff that began in May. The program teaches basic communication and math skills, problem solving techniques, and how to work effectively within a team. These skills are vital for job seekers. The newest trainee is a 15 year old who gets to work alongside staff and volunteers, helping to give them confidence.

ReStore has been working with local support agencies to assist families in crisis and in-need. People that have experienced homelessness or who have been victims of domestic violence can turn to ReStore to help them set-up their new home. ReStore is able to donate or provide at a greatly reduced cost dining tables, sofas, beds, housewares and small appliances. Space is limited to one family per month, with some restrictions. Many of the people ReStore has assisted this past year were affected by the fires last year. It can be absolutely devastating for these families to lose so much. While we can’t help with what was lost, we can help them to more confidently have a fresh start with the knowledge that we stand with them.

Specialty Volunteers Needed. ReStore is in need of volunteers who can help with vintage items and pricing. We receive such a wide variety of special items that it can be challenging to locate information about the item and how to set an appropriate price. If interested, contact us at (530) 274-3761.

Get $5 off your next ReStore purchase! Share you’re your address and/or email with us and we’ll give you a $5 ReStore Buck! You can also sign-up for the Nevada County Habitat newsletter where you’ll receive family stories, updates on home construction and more. And, of course, we absolutely promise that we will NOT share your information!
